Barefoot Mailman

Posted by Susan (Pompano Beach, by Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States) on 17 April 2010 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

The Barefoot Mailman walked the beaches of South Florida between Palm Beach and the Miami River, 40 miles by foot, and additional 28 miles by various boats. The round trip took from Monday thru Friday. The most famous of the Barefoot Mailmen was Ed Hamilton, who disappeared at this inlet with only his clothes and mailbag left behind....not a trace of him ever found. This original stone statue now stands where boaters going in and out of the inlet can view him.....

Going to pick up my ribbon and $50 gift certificate for a restaurant tonight......for my 2nd place win in the photo contest!! Yeah !!!!

VERY COOL (IRIS) WAY TO VIEW ALL MY IMAGES HERE !!

Marion from Cincinnati, United States

fantastic composition and lighting. Did you use HDR technique? I guess one of those days, I should consider playing with that too. Congrats on winning in the contest. This shot deserves a great dinner :)

@Marion: thanks much Marion....yes, this is a 3 exposure hdr shot........it's an addicting technique!!!

Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United States

An excellent composition with magnificent light and sky, Susan - and congratulations on your win! I always try to apply any such money towards something to do with my photography and realize that this is difficult with a restaurant gift certificate. Thinking about this, I've decided to pass along my wish to you - that your meal be 'worthy of a picture'.

17 Apr 2010 2:29pm

@Stephen Phillips: thanks much stephen......that's a great idea, to use photography winnings towards photography expenses.......and don't know when i'll have the opportunity to use that gift certificate.....but will surely remember to bring my camera when i do!!! on another note....i just watched the movie "Sweet November" for the umpteenth time......it's set in San Fran, and each time i watch it....I long to fly west........one of these days.......
