Cypress Creek Canal, aka The C14

Posted by
Susan (Pompano Beach, by Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States) on 28 August 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

The C14 canal runs from the ocean, probably over to Lake Okeechobee.....and it goes right thru the condo development I live in......there's a wonderful walking path that runs along, and it's a nice addition to our neighborhood. As you can tell, shortly after I was there, that cloud opened up...... it had been raining most of the morning.... by this time, the heat had dried the pavement, but everything was so lushly green, it was almost unbelievable.....

VERY COOL (IRIS) WAY TO VIEW ALL MY IMAGES HERE !!

Judy from Brooksville, Florida, United States

Very, very beautiful, Susan ... and I love your low POV and the reflection of your little friend. Perfect HDR treatment!

28 Aug 2009 2:48pm

@Judy: Thanks much Judy.......I got in the car to drive around the complex, and see if I could find any flowers to shoot, different then what's at my building, and had no luck there.... but decided to finally stop the car, and shoot this area, that I drive by every single day, and never really "see".......

Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United States

The graceful blue heron in the foreground adds as well. I love the sky (but you knew that). Have a good weekend, Susan.

28 Aug 2009 4:14pm

@Stephen Phillips: Yes, I was lucky that blue heron was hanging around when I got there...... thanks much Stephen, and you have a good weekend also!!! I just wish it weren't going to be so hot and muggy here this weekend (estimated weekend temps in mid 90's, with 90% humidity !).....I'm dying to go out and shoot some photos, but the heat puts a real damper on wandering around.......

greg from Denver, United States

we have sorta similar shots today... nice capture

28 Aug 2009 6:00pm

@Curly: Thansk Curly..... i was lucky the bird was there when I decided to shoot the shot!!!!

john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United States

Outstanding reflections. Love the heron.

28 Aug 2009 6:09pm

@john4jack: Thanks Jack.... just the luck of the draw to have the heron there, when i stopped to shoot....they're around here frequently..... but almost never when you want them to pose!!! I got lucky!!!

Christel from Köln, Germany

Good evening, Susan,
a very beautiful picture. I like the bright colors and the reflections in the water. Also I see a heron standing on the left bank. Dear greetings Christel

28 Aug 2009 6:40pm

@Christel: Thanks Christel..... we have many blue herons that come around the neighborhood, since we have so many canals and small ponds..... It's great fun watching all the water birds that visit.....

Dawn from Maryland, United States

I too like the heron captured in the picture, especially the reflection. I also like the vibrant greens against the dark dreary sky. : )

28 Aug 2009 7:06pm

@Dawn: Seems like that blue heron is the hero of this shot...... I was glad he stayed put, until I was finished shooting!!!!
thanks much Dawn.... and have a great weekend!!

Lee from Fort Frances Ontario, Canada

A fabulous shot. The Heron helps make it seem more rural than it is. Your processing and caomposition are superb.

29 Aug 2009 3:39am

@Lee: Thanks much Lee.....funny you should say the heron makes it look more rural.....I have seen these birds, on the sidewalks downtown...they manage to show up everywhere!! Nothing rural about them, in this neck of the woods......

Magda from Vancouver, Canada
